Bodegas Faustino and the Universitat Politècnica de València create the Bodegas Faustino & Willy Ramos Chair to support young artists

The cherry on top of the year 2021, which has seen Bodegas Faustino unveil a plethora of new projects and updates, is undoubtedly the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Universitat Politècnica de València in November, giving rise to the creation of the Bodegas Faustino & Willy Ramos Chair assigned to the institution’s Faculty of Fine Arts. 

Through this action, Bodegas Faustino – which boasts over 160 years of experience, with its lasting image being that of the iconic portrait by Rembrandt which has adorned bottles of Faustino I since the 1960s, shaking the world of wine to its core – goes another step further towards supporting art and the future of the discipline.

This partnership with Willy Ramos, the artist responsible for the labels of the entire Faustino Art Collection range, and who is currently a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València, constitutes the winery’s contribution to establishing this Chair which aims to propel young artists towards embarking on stays outside of Spain, and provide them with unique insight which they will then use to design their own work of art.  

The select few – four Universitat Politècnica de València students who have completed their master's degrees and submitted their dissertations and portfolios, chosen by the Chair’s monitoring committee – will be offered the chance to engage in an artistic residency overseas.

As part of this residency, each student will spend one month in the host country before returning to Spain, at which point they will have a period of five months to create a work which will later be displayed. The university will provide the students with support throughout the process, with the end result being an exhibition sponsored by the Chair.

The winery's commitment to the programme is further proof of the undying importance that the family places on art and the close relationship that it has fostered with the discipline since it began making wine four generations ago.
